We are convinced that this type of lily can eventually enlarge the demand for lilies. The reasons why consumers rarely buy lilies — if at all — are often their strong scent and the stains resulting from their pollen.

It is this group in particular that are responding so enthusiastically to the Roselily collection. This company run by the brothers Tonny, Martin and Johan de Looff was originally engaged in lily forcing.

Always looking for new varieties, they often visited plant breeders. This inspired them to start breeding themselves: in they launched their own plant breeding programme. A few years later, the brothers discovered a spontaneous mutation: a freak of nature in the form of a double-flowering lily and Roselily was born! They are perfect, yet they fade so quickly. They have no thorns like the rose.

But we can know that nothing that is loved is ever lost and no one who has touched a heart can really pass away because some beauty lingers on in each memory of which they've been a part. I am thankful that even though Lily is not here, God gives me beautiful glimpses of His purpose for her life and legacy. I like to think that my delicate Lily helped make this prickly, thorny rose a little more beautiful. Anonymous March 9, at PM.
